Shawn Maher (Ph.D. Candidate, University of Albany) will deliver a talk entitled “A City of Senses: The Intersection of Sensory Experience and Public Health in Newburgh's Past.” This talk explores the ways in which the five senses played a role in perceptions of public health in Newburgh at the turn of the twentieth century. Maher will discuss the ways in which members of the community experienced, navigated, and ultimately tried to regulate negative sensory experiences in a growing industrial city.
Come and enjoy an evening with us at the Crawford House while sipping on a cocktail or mocktail. Light refreshments will be served. This lecture is free to the public, though a donation is requested.
