Speaker: Nick Edward, Neighborhood Stabilization Coordinator, City of Newburgh
The destruction from urban renewal programs throughout cities in America has created multi-faceted impacts that can still be felt today. The City of Newburgh has a vast history that has been scarred by urban renewal. With multiple historic preservation efforts to document and protect the city’s architectural heritage, the legacy of African American communities has been under-represented. The City of Newburgh received a National Park Service grant to update the East End Historic District nomination with a focus on African American Civil Rights History. The aim is to prioritize cultural significance and community preservation alongside architectural integrity. Come and enjoy an evening with us while sipping on a cocktail or mocktail. This lecture is free to the public, though a donation is requested.
***Due to forecasts of continued heat next week, please note that this lecture will be held at the Newburgh Heritage Center (Old Courthouse) at 123 Grand Street, Newburgh and NOT at the Crawford House.
