This workshop focuses on a diary of a Newburgh farmer written in 1841-3 that was recently donated to the Newburgh Historical Society. Participants will practice reading and transcribing portions of the diary and consider the evidence for agricultural practices, seasonal rhythms and rural life in early nineteenth century Newburgh. Some materials will be distributed in advance. There is a $20 materials fee for this workshop, though HSNBH members can register for free.
